Tracey - Since posting my query regarding the four children of John Nicholas Karsner/Kestner/Casner, Sr., I'm not too sure now if the fourth son was Levi or Leonard.I don't know where I got the Levi information from (all my genealogy stuff is packed away).Right now I am more comfortable with the following information.
The four sons were:
(1) John Kestner/Casner, Jr.(born 1784-1794)
(2) Henry Kestner/Casner (bd1765-1784 dd before 1-27-1835 Washington County, VA)
(3) Jonas Kestner/Casner on 7-2-1801 marriedNancy Wright.Records exist that on 10-6-1797 Jonas Casnor sold his team of horses to Jacob Morell. This is my line.
(4)Leonard Kestner on 7-2-1801 in Washington County, VA marriedLewy Grace (Grace Levy); the marriage was performed by Minister Edward Crawford (Washington County, Virginia Marriages, Ministers’ Returns 1776-1855 abstracted by Mary Hiatt and Craig Roberts Scott, Iberian Publishing Company, Athens, Georgia, 1994).Leonard Casner and his family appear on the 1810census living near Jonas Casner (1810 KY Census, Cumberland County, Page 174 (706) with the surname spelled Cashner.
I have endeavored to trace both Levi and Leonard on census records after the 1810 census, all to no avail.I thought perhaps his name was Leonard Levi Casner. Now, I am not sure sure about anything as I have not been able to find any further records on either one of them; which tells me they either died or had other first names they went by, or the spelling of the last name is something else.
It is interesting to note that you have a Moses Casner in your line.A grandson to my Jonas Casner (#3 above) is named Moses Casner. He is the only Moses in my very extensive Casner line.I have often wondered where the name came from.In my particular line I have James' and Johns' all over the place - often making it very difficult to keep up with them.
I have some information on a James Hyman Casner somewhere.Let me check my data bases (I have some 70 different data bases of Casner people.Have found it is easier to keep track of them in FTM db so I don't keep going back over the same ground. I will post another response here when I find the information.
