My mother told me that she recalls hearing someone in the family once saying the family had been Jewish, probably a few hundred years ago. She also recalls that one of the family married a Catholic and then the whole family became Catholic.

The story seems stretched, but could be possible. In one of the periodic purges against the Jews a few centuries ago, the family could have turned Catholic to escape oppression. Maybe some of the family remained Jewish.
