Cassell in MidNorth Ontario Canada
Hi, my Father, Albert Cassell was born near Sault Saint Marie Ontario in 1915, and passed away in April 1997. He did not leave much history about his family behind. His father was John who died in the 1930s, we do not know his origin. His mother may have been Mary, but we are unsure as she died very shoryly after the birth of the 3rd son. Three boys were born, Joe, in 1913, Albert 1915, and Bill (William?) in 1916 or 1917. They were born in logging camps around Iron Bridge Ontario, along highway 17, between Sudbury and Sault Saint Marie.
John lost a leg sometime in the 1920's, was remarried to a woman with existing children. My father was unsure if any more children were created.
My father, and his 2 brothers were taken in by the Sault Saint Marie children's aid around 1925, and subsequently given to a farmer in the area as labour. Under very harsh living conditions, foirst Joe left, then my Father, then Bill, the two brothers to unknown destinations. Joe may have left for Europe or Russia. Bill was unknown. My Father died not every hearing about them or from them again.
Records of the children's aid appear to have been destroyed in a fire in the 1950s or 60s in the district of Algoma's offices then. I have searched the town, cemetary, library records along highway 17 with finding absolutely no information about any form of 'Cassell', spelled any possible way.
If you have any info al all, this would be greatly appreciated. I was born in Subdury Ontario in 1954, grew up in Creighton Mine, a town nearby.
Thank you so much,
Kind regards,
Wally Cassell
