Michael Castel-Ireland/England in 1851

The 1851 British census listed Michael Castel, age 60, pensioner, father, living with James Hughes and Eliza Hughes, my ggrandparents. Kershaw had been given as Eliza's maiden name, but now I am wondering if it was Castel. Does anyone know if there were any Castels in Ireland? Where does the name originate? Michael did not appear in the 1861 census. Thanks.
