My isn't it a small world! Your friends must descend from James Cathcart who married in England. Am I correct?
Mary Murphy who married Michael Cathcart was the daughter of John Murphy and Margaret Brown of Low Point, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. John was the son of Timothy Murphy of Castlelyons, Ireland and Mary "Tim" McGillivray of Low Point Cape Breton. Mary "Tim" was the daughter of Donald McGillivray who was a soldier. I believe he enlisted in the army at Glasgow, Scotland. Donald McGillvray was married to Christian Fraser who may have been the daughter of a Colin Fraser who also was a soldier in Sydney.
Margaret Brown who married John Murphy was the daughter of James Brown of South Bar Nova Scotia and Mary Munn. Mary Munn was the daughter of Benoni Munn and Lucy Jane Townsend. Benoni was from America and he died young. Lucy Jane was the daughter of James and Elizabeth Townsend. James was a soldier and he fought with the British at the Battle of Louisboug in the late 1700s.
James Brown was the son of George and Mary Brown. George was a soldier who was born in Scotland. I think however that James was born in Ireland. James was also a soldier.
Not only am I related to your friends through the Cathcarts but I am also related to them through the Murphys. You see Mary Murphy who married Michael Cathcart had a sister named Annie Murphy who married Hector J. MacNeil. I am Vincent (Edward, Raymond, Hector s/o Annie Murphy d/o John s/o Timonthy) Murphy.
I have all of James Cathcart who married in England's family tree traced. You friends have numerous cousins on this side of the Atlantic!
I look forward to an exchange of information!
