I am researching the Arthur family of Harford County MD. My 3rd greatgrandfather's name is John Arthur. According to census records he was born in PA. At list point I don't know who his parents or siblings were.

Please bare with me now as I explain what possible connection with might have.

I came across a marriage at the Maryland Historical Society. It was a Hugh Arthur/Arthurs who married a Margaret Kithcart on March 13, 1813 in Baltimore, Maryland. It was part of the Hayward File of the Baltimore American Newspaper. On further research I found these people on census records. I believe that Margaret's name was Cathcart. Also found them on Family Search through the Mormons. It lists the children as William Cathcart Arthur born 1814, Catherine Arthur, Margaret Ann and Hugh Arthur. I think there were others later. I then found a Wm. C. Arthur family in Baltimore with children John, Hugh, Margaret & Hannah in 1850. In 1870 in Alleghany PA I found a Hugh Arthur living with a Joseph Boyd, wife's name Margaret. Hugh was listed as a dentist. Now this Hugh Arthur and Margaret Boyd ages match those of the children of Wm. C. Arthur & Margaret Cathcart. In 1880 same county of PA I found Hugh Arthur dentist married with children. Again in 1920 same location I found Hugh Arthur dentist age 76 with 2 daughters, Hennietta and Mary. According to census records they seem to have been bouncing between PA and MD.

The Cathcart name comes into my family again through my 2nd great grandfather Samuel Arthur born in Harford County MD in 1819. Thomas Cathcart a school teacher/minister seems to be either friend/family with Samuel Arthur. I know this Thomas Cathcart married at least one daughter of Samuel. Her name is Eliza Arthur Pennington. There are land transaction with this Thomas Cathcart as well. Thomas Cathcart may have had a church near or next to my great great grandfather's blacksmith shop.

In your message you mentioned a Boyd. This of course may me think of Margaret Arthur Boyd. Could there be any connection?

arlene in Georgia Please email me direct using the above subjust heading. Hope we connect.
