Hi Vince,
As promised I have further information to add.Firstly the children of Michael and Mary Cathcart are all christened at St. Alphonus church, bith dates in records:
1.Bernadette 7th August 1885
2.Josephine 10th May 1888
3.Thomas 4th June 1891
4.Margaret 22nd July 1893
5.James C. 8th August 1896
James C. wife Elsie born 1st November 1900 in Hunslet ,Leeds dau of Fred Robinson and Ada nee Brogden. James died 2nd August 1966 in Leeds and Elsie 25th September 1969, also in Leeds.
The childrens birth dates;
1.Michael James 7th May 1933 in Horsford, Leeds m i.Hazel Eileen Clake, ii,Barbara Pawlin
2.Catherine Patricia 2nd September 1934, Abdovey, Wales m. Brien Watson.
3.Ronald Elvery 4th June 1936 in Kingsdown, Kent, m. Marion Grime
4.Margaret Romala 4th June 1936 ditto m.Brian Edgar Richard Hields
5.Leonard Robin 2nd May 1939 m.i.Marion Blaire Monteith, ii.,Ann Elizabeth Borne
6.Helen Mary 22nd October 1941 in Seacroft, Leeds, m.Peter Dawson.
I have been looking in to the Cathcarts in England at around 1775 and there are only a handfull.A number of these have service positions and all connect to the Scotish root.They branch out to Ireland and the colonies including Jamaica,the Leeward Islands,India and China.It should be possible to piece these together. What does R.N.I.R. stand for? I hope next week to go to the National Archive where I am sure I can find out about William b.1775.
As far as James C. first marriage we beleve Helen Lawson was approximatly 9 years his senior and that they married in Ontario between 1918 and it should be possible to find.
Regards Simon.
