Dear Vince,
Sorry for the long delay usuall computer problems!!
Anyway I found William Cathcart first mentioned on the Nova Scotia Militia Volunteers for 1796. He arrives on board the 'Asia' in 1796 from probably Falmouth.
The Asia was built in 1764 in Portsmouth. She was under command of Capt. Robert Murray. The Asia travelled from Jamaica to England along the American Coast.
I also found references to grant made in leu of wages to William Cathcart, ie land rights.
Now that I am back on course I will get copies of the Malitia rolls showing William and his entry to Nova Scotia.
Hope you are well. Regards Simon.
