William Hugh Cathcart was married 3 times. He married Amanda Spikes in Mississippi and they had Mary Elizabeth (Molly) and Amanda. His pension application notes that one of their children died during the Civil War, but does not give name or sex, but it was not either of the girls above, as they both lived to adulthood and married. Mary married John D. Richardson and had 5 known children. Amanda married Frank Lovett and they had several children. It seems Amanda Spikes died during the war also; I have not located a death record or gravestone for her. W. H. married second to Edith C. Edwards Gross (in Mississippi)whose husband had died in the war. George Adam Gross was her son from her first marriage. George lived in the Cathcart home until adulthood, though Edith died sometime shortly after the birth of David Cathcart and Lillie Cathcart. George married and later moved to Limestone Co., Alabama where he reared a large family. David married and had one son, Barnes; David died in 1904 in Giles Co., Tn. Lillie married John A. Ellard and they moved to Texas in 1911. I am descended from them. W. H. married third Sarah Adalaide. She had John when they married and he later took the name of Cathcart. He married in Giles Co. and had one son; John and wife and son Elmer and wife are buried in Giles Co. I have not been able to learn who fathered John. W. H. died in 1904 and Adelaide in 1912 and they and David are buried in Giles County. I am still working on this family of William Hugh and would be happy to hear from anyone who has information to offer about any of them. Thank you! Joyce Blackman
