I'm seeking information on William H. CATHEY who appeared on the 1860 Walker County, AL, census as a widower, age 54, born SC, a farmer. He had some minor children in his household when the census was taken in Walker County in 1860. Does anyone know if this William H. CATHEY had a daughter named Martha C., born ca 1831 in SC (per census record), who was the second wife of Sherod (Sherwood) JAMES, Jr., also born in SC? Does anyone have the name of this William H. CATHEY's wife, including her maiden name?
By the time the census was taken in 1880, W. H. CATHEY (CATHA on 1880 census record) was in Blount County, AL, living with a married son, H. J. CATHEY (CATHA), his wife and family. W. H. CATHEY (CATHA) was still shown as a widower on the 1880 census on which he was shown as age 73, a farmer, born in SC, father born in NC, mother born in SC.
In Walker County, AL, as well as in Blount County, AL, this William H. CATHEY was living next to Lewis (Louis) CHILDERS, his wife, Clarinda, and their family. Does anyone know of a connection between this William H. CATHEY and the CHILDERS, SANDLIN, and/or JAMES families? Does anyone know the maiden name of Clarinda CHILDERS?
