I don't know this for sure, but I MAY have a possible connection between your John A Cathey born 1815 in Maury Co TN, and his MAYBE father or grandfather, one John Alexander Cathey (b Between 1770 and 1771 in Rowan County, NC, died Between 1850 and 1860 in Maury Co TN). The location and ages could be about right. This John Alexander Cathey was a child of John Cathey b 1744-1745 in August Co, VA, and wife Mary Erwin. I show John Alexander's father John to be a child of Alexander Cathey b 1707 in Ulster, Ireland, died 7 Apr 1766 in Rowan County, NC, and buried at Thyatira Presbyterian Church - Rowan County, NC. Alexander's wife and John's mother was Mary Elizabeth Pinkney. I show that Alexander and Mary Elizabeth Pinkney married about 1729 in Ulster, Northern Ireland.

I don't know that this John Alexander Cathey in Maury Co TN was father or grandfather to your John A Cathey in Maury Co TN, but it's possible. Might be a place to start. Much of my information comes from the research of Boyt Henderson Cathey and Dr Henry Cathey.

Do you have Boyt's book? Possibly some info there...
