Cathey, Lane, Armstrong, Neill_ Bedford County TN
Posted by: BD Lane (ID *****8664) Date: October 18, 2012 at 01:45:55
  of 1413

I am a gg grandson of James Cathey Lane of Bedford County TN, who was, I think, the son of Margaret Cathey and John Lane. Margaret seems to have been the daughter of Archibald Cathey. In the Land Deeds Genealogy of Bedford County (Marsh and Marsh) I have found the following transactions:

Deed Book Q Page 196: Archibald Cathey to James Cathey, Deed of Gift. For love and affection for his son James Cathey, conveys a negro boy Moses...wit, William Ditto and John Lain. Reg 8 Apr 1823

Deed Book Y Page 191 - 23 Oct 1826. Alexander Neill and wife to Vilett Cathey, 833+ acres... for love and affection..land on East Fork of Rock Creek.

Deed Book BB Page 333: reference to the 2500 acre North Carolina Grant to George Cathey.

Deed Book BB page 510 - 26 Jan 1824. "We, John Lane and Peggy (Margaret) Lane his wife, James B. Armstrong and Rebecca Armstrong his wife, all of Bedford Co. TN, sold a negro woman Sharlott, to Amos McAdams...

Deed Book GG page 354 - 13 Nov 1837. Reference to land bordering William Ditto, A. Sharp, "James Cathey who is deceased", and William Sharp.

James Cathey Lane married Frances Mirande Wynn. There is an entry in the land deeds referring to the Wynn and Lane lands were on Alexanders Creek. The Lane family descended from Joel Lane of Raleigh NC seem to have settled on Rich Creek, while their second or third cousins Rutherford, Isham and Drury have records of lands on Alexanders Creek. This may indicate that James Cathey Lane came from the latter branch.

Does anyone have any information at all about James Lane and Margaret Cathey? The puzzle is tantalizing.

thank you
