Hello, just been browsing the net and thought I'd look at my maiden name.

My name is Ruth Frances Cattanach, my father was John Hay Cattanach, born in Banff, Scotland with two sisters Maggie and Lilian and his father, Francis Cattanach, mother Jessie (rumour was that she was the illegitimate daughter of a Lord Mountstephen of Brocket Hall in England, her mother was packed off to Scotland and made to marry Macrae who regularly asked Mountstephen for money, who paid up!) My grandfather got Jesse away from Macrae and married her. Francis, don't know where in Scotland he was born, but he was the railway engine driver running from Inverness to Aberdeen until he retired. My father was a Salvation Army officer and spent most of his adult life in the South of England. I have blood cousins called Robertson and Graham is a really clever doctor in London. I live in Romsey and probably will never leave, it's a lovely place - I love the highlands but it is cold!
