John CAULK, Delaware, and three Susans
I am looking for records of children of John CAULK and Susan SEBO, who married in New Castle County on 1 Dec 1819. [1] I'm also interested in finding both sets of their parents.
I believe Susan (SEBO) CAULK died about 1850, since there is a probate record for a Susan S CAULK of New Castle County in the Delaware probates index. [2] I think she was a widow by then, but can't tell what year her husband died by the Probates index.
Did John CAULK and Susan SEBO have a daughter, Susan E. CAULK, born in 1828? I have in Philadelphia, PA, one Susan E. CAULK, born July 1828 in Delaware (per census records). Her husband was John E. WARNE (1829-1877), whom she married on 17 May 1853. [3] This couple had one child, Susan Clement WARNE, born 24 June 1854 in Pennsylvania, who married James Veazey ELLISON of Philadelphia, on 15 October 1878. [3].
Before moving to Philadelphia, James Veazey ELLISON was from (near) Glasgow, Pencader Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. He came to Philadelphia between 1870 and 1880, first working as a bank clerk, and eventually became the Secretary-Treasurer of the Commonwealth Title & Insurance Company. He and Susan WARNE and their three daughters lived in Philadelphia for a while, then moved out to Wynnewood on the Main Line between 1910 and 1920. Their daughters were my grandmother's aunts.
John E. WARNE died in 1877. By 1880, Susan E (CAULK) WARNE was living with her daughter and son-in-law James V. and Susan (Warne) ELLISON, at Wynnewood, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. She lived with them until she died at their home on 8 April 1921, at age 92. [4]
The John CAULK family also lived in Glasgow, Pencader Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. In 1830, John Caulk, age 30-40 and (probably) his wife, 30-40, had two young boys --one under 5 and one 5-10, another male 20-30, one little girl under 5, and another female 15-20.
Was Susan E CAULK the little girl in the census here?
Neither John nor Susan CAULK appear in the 1850 census for New Castle County, unless I missed something. I could use a double-check if anyone can see the index; I had to read through it page by page.
Is anyone researching the John and Susan CAULK family, or does anyone have records concerning them? Has anyone heard of the SEBO family?
I would be very grateful for any help on this one.
Best wishes,
Liz J

[3] A Genealogy of the Warne Family in America, by Rev. George Warne Labaw, Pastor of the Reformed Church of Preakness, N.J. (1911) Frank Allaben Genealogical Co., New York, p. 417. [googlebooks]. This is a large and very detailed work. Rev. George Warne Labaw provides no
documentation of marriage or birth records (for the Warne-Caulk marriage), but has solid dates, middle names and place names, which I find consistent with census and other firm records. He apparently obtained some of his information through family members who returned questionnaires he sent out between 1904 and 1911, including details on the James Ellison family of Wynnewood. At the time of writing, Susan E (Caulk) Warne was yet living, and probably she, or her daughter, personally provided the data on this family.
