Hello Sue Ellen,
I found this article:
Page News and Courier,
Friday, 1 Aug 1919, Vol. 8, no. 9, pg. 1, col. 6
Newman Cave, a well known citizen living near Franklin’s Cliff just across the Madison line, was buried last week. He was a nephew of Rev. Jack Cave, deceased, a well known preacher of that section. He married a daughter of Mann Offenbacker and leaves a large family of children. Newman Cave’s home which was located just this side of Dark Hollow was a well known point in that direction.
I believe this Rev. Jack Cave is probably John Anderson Cave.
I found another article:
Friday 20 May 1921, Vol. 8, no. 51, pg. 7, col. 3
"Rev. Gerdon Cave who is pastor of the new Free Will Baptist church at Cavetown near Stony Man, preached in Main Street Baptist Church Sunday morning… Mr. Cave lives near Dark Hollow on the Madison side of the Blue Ridge. He is a son of Rev. John Cave and a nephew of the late Rev. Henry Cave, two well known mountain preachers of other days. Rev. Jack Cave, another valuable worker in the same field, did not belong to this same family though a distant relative."
The question is what do they mean by distant? Did distant mean that Jack wasn't part of the Jimmy and Katy Stanley-Cave family? Before I go any further, Jimmy and Katy were not referred to in this article.
I should note that the Page News can sometimes be misleading when it comes describing kinship in those articles, it being a question of who was the informant, etc. I guess I haven't managed to clear the waters anymore, simply adding to what we already know: Jimmy Cave and Jack Cave were some relation.
I was of the opinion that Jimmy was a member of the John Cave and Elizabeth Thomas-Cave family, and a brother to Simeon. But I also was pretty sure Newman Cave, of Elkton, was another brother. I've been disproven on this.
I'll keep looking. Those Dark Hollow Caves were a pretty wordy bunch. They wrote to the newspaper constantly it seems. But their articles tend to be little on genealogical information, but long on spiritual edification.
