John Cave (Born 1758) Culpeper County, Va
Posted by: George Jenkins (ID *****4398) Date: October 01, 2011 at 05:07:55
  of 1277

My ancestor John CAVE was born ca 1758 in Culpeper county, Virginia (today county of Rappahannock) John was married to Catherine/Katherine , about 1780. John served in the 2nd Virginia Regiment from October thru December of 1777 and was regularly discharged. When the call came in Mid-January of 1780, for the 18 month men to serve, John was drafted again. Being a newly wedded man, he did not wish to leave his bride. It was a normal practice at that time to send a substitute if you could find one and pay him to serve in your place. John probably did not have the money to pay someone to serve for him, but his younger brother, Benjamin CAVE, who had just returned from a three month tour of duty, volunteered to take his place. Benjamin served the eighteen months and returned safely in June of 1781. Records show that Reuben, William, Benjamin, and John were all in the Revolutionary War conflict, serving from different areas of the country. Benjamin later became a minister of the Gospel, serving in the Carolinas, Virginia, Kentucky, and Ohio.

Am looking for anyone with additional information on him, especially his ministry. I have info on all my Caves at

There is also a downloadable GEDCOM if you think we might be related.

Thanks in advance
