The 5th generation Josephs are confusing. I believe that there are at least 3 of them and possibly 4. There is a Joseph b. Jan. 17, 1795 who married Lucy Fernald Holbrook on March 4, 1819 that I do not know the parents of and would appreciate any help in placing – he is either a 5th or 6th generation Amazeen.

Further confusing matters is the fact that multiple Josephs are referred to as “Joseph 3rd “. The one b. 1795 is a case in point as well as the one referred to in Norma’s message # 49.

The reason I came to a different conclusion than Norma’s message is that I have the marriage to Mary Jones occurring on Dec. 16, 1787 and the Joseph5 (son of Christopher and Molly) referred to in Norma’s message as being born in 1775 – thus only 12 years old at the time of the marriage to Mary Jones. Therefore, I concluded that it was a different Joseph who married Mary Jones, one born ca. 1760 – 1768. That leaves the other two 5th generation Josephs.

The New Castle, NH vital records show two Josephs – one born Feb. 6, 1763 the son of Joseph and Dorcas and marrying Mary Jones and the other born March 6, 1763 the son of John Amazeen and Mehitable and marrying Mary Amazeen. I believe the birth date of the March 6, 1763 Joseph who married Mary Amazeen but based on other (contradictory) vital records cards I believe the birth date of the Joseph born Feb. 6, 1763 to be wrong. I believe that he was born ca. 1766 and lived to be 91 years old.

The cards also show that a Joseph married a Susanna Shannon on Nov. 24, 1799 and I have concluded that this is the Joseph that is the son of Christopher and Molly.

I hope this was not too confusing. If I have any “facts” wrong please let me know.
