I just wanted to let you know that, yes the Apperson and Epperson surnames are interchangeable. Originally, the surname in France was de La Valette, but because of the family converting from being Catholic to Protestant (Huguenots) they had to flee France. This happened in the early 1600's to the de La Valette family. The name Epperson is an anglicized version of "Epernon", which was the region in France that King Henry III gave the Dukedom to Jean Louis Nogaret de La Valette. His son, Bernard Nogaret de La Valette, the 2nd Duke of Epernon had to flee to Wales where he married a Welch lady. They had a child they named John Epernon who later came to New Kent County,VA. He had a son, William Epperson. William had a son, Francis Epperson who changed the last names of all his children to "Apperson". So, the name Apperson descends from Francis Epperson and his wife, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Long. I have a TON of info on the Duke of Epernon along with a 300 page book that was written by Leo Mouton, "Epernon of Old France".
