I would really appreciate any help you can give! My Great Grandmother, Belle W. Barker was born on 19 June, 1887, in Arkansas. According to his WWII Registration card, her brother Charlie was born on 15 April, 1889, in Booneville, Arkansas. The census says that their father was "Scot/Irish" and their mother was born in Missouri. Due to the largely missing 1890 census (that fire in DC has caused so many brick walls for us all!), the first I can find Belle is 1905 in Ardmore, Oklahoma, when she got a marriage license with Luther Dawson "Doss" Lynch, my Great Grandfather. I have Belle's census' in 1910 and 1920 in Oklahoma. I have Charlie in 1917, registering for WWII in Caddo, Oklahoma. Then, I see that he was living with Belle and Luther on the 1920 census. Belle Barker Lynch died in 1926 in Caddo County, Oklahoma, at the young age of 29. Sadly, Charlie followed her in death just 3 years later in 1929, also in Caddo County. These siblings must have been close. They are buried side by side at Fort Cobb Cemetery in Caddo County, Oklahoma. Belle's tombstone reads: Belle Lynch Barker, sister to Charles A. Barker Charlie's tombstone reads: Charles A. Barker, brother to Belle Barker Is there a possibility that they were orphaned at a young age and raised by a family led by George Melton (or Milton)? I would like very much to know who Belle and Charlie's parents and family were and the stories that go with them. I am trying to help my aging father, who really wants to know what his family history is. |
