Has anyone else seen the letter from Milton Brees to his sister Ellen Brees who married Samuel Besett? There are a number of handwritten pages with the family histories. The following are the first few pages:
"Neponset (Ill.) Jan 4th 1887
I send you a copy of the Chronology of our family as far as I know.
If you have the dates of Marriages, Births, etc of any of the family that I have omitted write them in.
Would like to have you send me the date of Sams birth. Also the date of Stephen........
Give our love to all, From your brother
"The first of the Brees family that came to this country were from Shrewsbury England. They were
Sidney Brees. Born 1709
John Brees. Born 1713
The last three were the first to arrive and they settled and gave name to the town of Shrewsbury New Jersey. From this point they afterward migrated to various parts of the United States.
Sidney Brees. Born 1709 died June 7th 1767 N.Y.
Elizabeth Pinkerman. and had a child Samuel Brees. Who married and had Samuel Sidney Brees. of Whites Boro New York.
Elizabeth Ann. who married Jedediah Morse. D.D. March 14th 1789. and was the Mother of Samuel Finley Brees. Morse. the inventor of a system of Telegraphy used by the whole world.
Arthur Brees. Born 1772 died Aug 13, 1825.
Catharine Livingston daughter of Henry Livingston of Dutches County N.Y. and had Hon Sidney Brees. of Illinois.
Of Henry Brees. and Cornelius Brees. the first comers. but little or nothing further of a definite character is known. That they married and had children there would seem to be no doubt. as we find by the record of New Jersey. that the following persons of the name were Soldiers in the Revolutionary army from their neighborhood.
Henry Brees. of Huntendon County
John Brees. of Monmouth County
John Brees. of Somerset County
Samuel Brees. of Somerset County
Samuel Brees. Colonel of Militia Monmouth County. He was probably son of Sidney......
Milton and Ellen were two of the children of Henry Brees and Sarah Johnsten. I would like to find others in this line. Please let me hear from you.
