Martha Ann, dau. of Hubbard and Sarah McDougald Kearns/Carnes, married Thomas J. Coffman in Walker Co., GA about 1854. In the Walker Census of 1860 she is living with her husband with brother Burton G. and sister Malinda living in the next household. Hubbard and his new wife Mahalia McGill (previously married) were living in another part of Walker County. Hubbard and Mahalia are found in the 1870 and 1880 Walker censuses.

Martha Ann E. and Thomas Coffman are found in the 1870 Bledsoe Co., TN census with four of their children. This is the only census in which it appears that Martha Ann had three given names and I would guess that it was Elizabeth.
This census is also unique in that it has daughter, S. E. Coffman 9, recorded as a male rather than as a female. She was Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Coffman and always wanted it known that she was born in Georgia. She and her older brother, Lewis Monroe Coffman, were born in Walker County, while the other siblings were born in TN.

The Coffman family moved back to Walker County where Thomas died on 26 April 1908 and was buried in Rock Spring Cemetery in Rock Spring, GA. In the 1910 Walker census Martha reported that her father was born in South Carolina if that is important. She moved to OK and was living with oldest son, Lewis Monroe Coffman in the 1920 OK census and probably passed away there in about 1921.

Martha Ann Carnes was my gg-grandmother and Sarah Elizabeth Coffman was my g-grandmother.
