Phillip Cassata, former Glendale Heights trustee: Newspaper Obituary and Death Notice
Chicago Tribune (IL) - May 29, 1991
Deceased Name: Phillip Cassata, former Glendale Heights trustee
Phillip R. Cassata Sr., 51, former Glendale Heights village trustee and self-employed auto salesman, died Sunday night after apparently suffering a heart attack in his Carol Stream home.

Mr. Cassata had moved to Carol Stream from Glendale Heights after losing a heated election bid for village president to Michael Camera in 1989.

The bitter campaign ended in a brawl election night between supporters of Mr. Cassata and the winner with each side blaming the other for starting the fight.

Mr. Cassata suffered a heart attack two days later, underwent double- bypass surgery and was forced to reduce his political and professional activities.

He was acquitted last year of charges of aggravated battery stemming from the election night confrontation and had worked for the successful re-election campaign of Carol Stream Mayor Ross Ferraro in April's election.

Ferraro said he had intended to nominate Mr. Cassata to fill a vacancy on the Carol Stream Village Human Services Commission. ``I got to know Phil during the last five our six months,'' Ferraro said. ``He knew what he was talking about, and I had a lot of respect for him. There was nothing he wouldn't do for you.''

Mr. Cassata had served as acting Glendale Heights village president for five months in 1979 and was a trustee there from 1977 to 1981, and again from 1987 to 1989.

Mass for Mr. Cassata will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Matthew's Church, 1555 Glen Ellyn Rd., Glendale Heights.

Survivors include his wife, Della; four sons, Phillip Jr., Joseph, Anthony and Vincent; a daughter, Constance Dugan; and four grandchildren
