I am interested in the information you have regarding "Petty" as the maiden name of Elizabeth who married Israel Chauncey.
In a previous post you mention Stanley Dunn's work. I also met and corresponded with Mr. Dunn in the 80’s. He cites the name Huckabone which is the name given to me by my grandmother. However I can't be too sure that she did not get that name through the same sources as Stanley Dunn many years ago. I am sure they knew each other.
You mention the work of Mary Haupt and refer to a Bible record
Also in “John M. Smith's History of the Town of Sunderland, Massachusetts [1899 edition] ... there is another listing for an Israel Chauncey, who married Elizabeth Petty on Feb. 16, 1763.”
And “A personal statement by Elizabeth (Petty) Chauncey in the Testimonies of early Shakers, in which she talks about the events of 1780. Note: Her descriptions are fascinating and full of local color. These were printed in 1819.”
I have sought to connect Elizabeth to a Huckabone family for years to no avail. At one point in time I thought she might have been of Native American extraction. But that lead did not go anywhere. Do you have additional information as to who Elizabeth’s parents were?
Thank you for any insight you may have along this line.
