Being from MA, I would think that your lineage goes back to the Hudson River Valley of NY State...Red Hook, Germantown, etc. John Philip Clum b 1684 is the cornerstone ancestor of most of us Clums. There were several other families that came over to that area that have descendants, but John P. seems to be the main character. He listed his profession as a tailor. One of his sons went south to Virginia and that is where my line continues to Ohio and points West from there, So I am pretty sure we are cousins. John P. Clum, the Indian agent is a direct descendant of John P., the immigrant. Ancestry.com has quite a bit of info from a variety of sources on him. I have a site on www.gencircles.com titled "Clum Kin and Cousins" that has my lineage back to John P.
There were Clums in Vermont, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the middle 1700s, but I don't know if they were tied to the Hudson River Valley or not.
