I'm looking for information on a man named John J. Cunningham. He arrived in the U.S.A. around 1883. John was originally from Ireland and was born in 1867. I think he may have come from County Sligo.
I believe that he came to New York around 1899. In approximately 1898, he married a Swedish woman named Anna. In 1900, they were living in 14 Greenburgh, Westchester, New York in the home of a family called Wallace. Anna was a domestic servant and John was a coachman.
By 1909, John was the proprieter of a set of stables at 127 W. 38th Street in Manhatten. This intersected with Broadway.
The 1910 census shows John and Anna living in Manhattan. Also there is Anna's 16-year-old niece who is also from Sweden. Her name is Nellie Gustarson. John is recorded as a proprietor of boarding stables.
The 1915 New York census shows John and Anna living together in Manhattan, with John still running the stables. They now have a four-year-old daughter called Catherine.
If any of this sounds to familiar to anyone, or if you know where I might be able to learn more about this family, please contact me. I would be very interested in finding about John's marriage to Anna, and of where I might be able to find a marriage record for them.
