If interested in James Monroe Cunningham (1818-1885) or J. W. Cunningham of either Rhea or Roane or Bledsoe counties in Tennessee you might wish to research three potential leads:

(1) There is a Cunningham from Bledsoe county (formed from Rhea and Indian land) who was a sergeant and wagon master during the "Fight for Southern Independence."  The reference file comes from TnGenWeb and can be viewed at:

http://www.tngenweb.org/bledsoe/bdocs.htm

(2) A non-census 1860 document (found on ancestry.com) shows James M. Cunningham owning farm livestock and indicates various farm product quantities.

(3) A direct male descendent of James Monroe Cunningham (1818-1885) is in the yDNA Haplogroup of I2b1. Try FamilyTreeDNA.com to view results.

Over Fork Over,
Mac Cunningham
