I could be wrong but I think this is the way it is. The Thomas E. Curl listed in the 1880 Census who is living in the Bartlet Boarding house with wife Maggie is Thomas Elwood Curl, b. 25 Dec 1831 in Ohio, is the son of Ephraim Curl b 1813 and Rebecca Sketoe. Thomas E. married Susannah Davis 16 Sep 1861 and had the following children: Viola Selestine, Marion Lemoin b 9 Mar 1835, Clarence Newton, Thomas Vinton b 29 Apr 1859, William Alphonso b 1 Oct 1862, Laura Alagine, Emma Madaline b 18 Feb 1861, Lelora and Elwood. Thomas and Susan separated or divorced. She is living in 1880 in Marion, Douglas Co., Kansas with children Lemoin age 25 Thomas V age 21 and William A. age 17. The "widower" who is living with Maggie's children in 1900 is not really their father but their half brother Thomas Vinton Curl. Thomas died in Laguna Beach, California.
I have been in contact with someone who has been researching this line and have been waiting for a promised package of information. Ephraim is the youngest son of James and Ruth Randall Curl. The "Harry" who is listed in the 1885 Kansas Census may be Elwood from the previous marriage and Harry is just a nickname.
