Sam,
My great-great grandfather was James A Curts from Delaware Co., IN. (Muncie is in Delaware Co.) The Curts had farms in Harrison Twp., in Delaware county for several generations. James was born in 1845.

James' son, William Gola Curts, also from Delaware Co., IN was my great-grandfather. He was born in 1879.

Parents of James A Curts are: Aaron C Curts from Butler Co., OH. He was born 27 June 1818 in Butler Co., OH. He married Catherine Darter (Wife #1) in Fayette Co., IN on 29 Oct 1840. He married Nancy Reed (Wife #2) on 9 Oct 1861 in Delaware Co., IN but she died on 12 March 1862. (Catherine Darter, wife #1, died 23 Nov 1859.) I think he may have remarried one more time, but I don't have that information at my fingertips at the moment.

John (your Private from the Civil War) may be a brother to either Aaron or James A. Aaron's father was James Curtz/Curts who married Margaret Degroff in Butler Co., OH on 18 Sept 1817. I have a copy of their marriage from Butler Co. that I sent for a few years ago.

I know it has been a few years since your posting, but I am hoping you receive this information. I think our Curts families are definitely from the same line.

All of the Darters and Curts are buried in the Jones Cemetary on Bethel Pike, west of Muncie, IN not far from I-69 exit off IN-332 highway. Hope this helps!

Please feel free to email me for more information.
