I am the great-great-great-great-great grandson of a Reverend Samuel Edney of western North Carolina (Henderson County) who was ordained by Bishop Francis Asbury as the first Methodist circuit rider in NC. The ordination was about 1793 in the Mills River - Hendersonville area near Asheville. My father Edward Plato Edney, Jr. moved to Texas from Asheville, NC in 1950 after graduating from Clemson. He died 4/27/99 before I was able to tell him about Genealogy searches on the web. Kermit Edney, the western NC radio personality, was his cousin. Dad was raised by three aunts - Byrd J Kirk, Enna Jamison, and Lena Jamison - sisters of his mother - Katherine Jamison Edney - who died of TB in about 1928. Dad served in the Navy, piloted landing craft at Iwo Jima, and served again during Korea. At my mother's house in Arlington, TX are many books about Henderson County, NC , and I am working up a family tree though Family Origins software. My dad has a sister Katherine who lives in Pennsylvania. I would be delighted to hear from any of you. If this message hits home, email me and I will send you my mother's (native Texan) email. This is my first ever genealogy query.
