Your Family Is Or was very wealthy before the civil War. Capt. Charles & brothers owned a portion of Talbot Resolution Manor. It was equal to half of an area equivalent to Upper Marlboro 5000 & some acres ! In those days land was Wealth ! See when your trying to trace your Gassaway family you need to know this .The Gassaway's for the most part named their Children after themselves, example my father is John D. Gassaway named after his Great grandfathers Father John H. Gassaway ,Since my fathers 1st cousin held his fathers n His cousin already held name . William ( Billy Gassaway ) after His father William Farrow Gassaway, who was named for his father William Augustus Gassaway & his mothers maiden name of Farrow . I was named for my Father & John Hanson Gassaway (Hence - John M. Gassaway . First name stays the same but middle is different most of the time. Most likely you need to search for relative from 1700's Now I found that we are from the same line originally, Our family's moved from Anne Arundle county Md. to Montgomery county in late 1700's they sold off all of their inherited land from our combined ancestors family's & slaves = Col, Nicholas Gassaway . Capt, Charles Gassaway is your relative from your fathers line. He fought in the Revolutionary war. & Died some time before 1811 or near that time , He had several brothers & sisters . he was My ancestors 1st cousin . he was related also to the Warfield family /. I will find out more for you . Also Talbot revolution manor main house is still standing . They The Foundation set up By the state of Maryland is trying to raise money to restore it . I just wanted to tell you that I am not wealthy at all . I measure wealth by how good a person is . Sincerely Yours John Mark Gassaway
