I hope to contact Larry Kimmel; his e-mail address I have seems to have gone away: Here is what I wrote and if it connects with someone else, please get in touch: Chuck and Larry, I have included Renate and Travis Goucher from the Anadarko OK area, they are related thru Samuel Potts Goucher. I have found some more information about the Gouchers (Gouger) living in New Jersey in the Revolutionary War time frame. I contacted the Historical Society and a researcher, Linnaea Foster found this information for me. They also sent me a copy of the information that you, Larry, sent to the Sussex County Historical Society in March of 1993. Below is the information I found: 1. This is from the Crawn Collection, Sussex County, NJ,Library 2. Compiled by Francis S. Crawn, Box 87, RFDI, Aspers, PA 17304 3. Name: Gouger, Joseph Residence: Warren County, Gravel Hill, Blairstown, NJ Born: France Died: 1809 Military Service: revolutionary War 4. Biographical Data: Joseph Gouger was one of the band of liberty loving frenchmen who came to America with Lafayette to help the colonies in their fight for freedom. He served in Washington's army and fought in many battles until a bullet hit him in the hip and ended his military career. He then settled in Gravel Hill, Blairstown, NJ. 5. Source of data: Blairstown Press; obituary March 27, 1895 of Rachel Gouger Bryan. 6. Children: a. Rachel Gouger (Washington, NJ) b. 1798 at Blairstown, NJ, d. March 15, 1895, 97 years old; m. John Bryan. b. Unknown c. John Gouger (possible) d. Samuel Goucher; m. Jane Vanzile, March 14, 1818 e. James Goucher, b. 1795, d. March 30, 1851, 56 years old, buried Marksboro County, NJ; m. Elizabeth, b. 1810, d. 4-18-1881 (71.1.14) f. Jacob Goucher, m. Rachel Ann Harden b.1818, d. 1888 I notice that the 11th entry on the sheet you sent, Larry, you list Samuel Potts Goucher b. Where? He is noted here as the child d. Would your William fit into the b. slot for unknown? While c. John Gouger is shown as a possible, still it fits. I notice that you have a John Goucher of Manfield-Woodhouse, Sussex County, for March 6, 1792 died in NJ. Be rather difficult for him to have been in Connecticut for the birth of a son John in 1805. Could he have been a brother or whatever to the Joseph Gouger? I notice that you have listed for 1811 a will for Joseph Goucher in Sussex County, NJ. It is not likely to be the same Joseph I have here, since his daughter died in 1798 at age 97. Chuck Mayo, does any of this seem to apply to you? Since John and William seemed to move together, I feel they are brothers. so we have a bit of a puzzle to figure out, right? Can you send me any of the documentation for that sheet of information? Or enough information that I can find it again? I will be staying in touch and sending what I can; but I am surprised that the researcher that I paid rather highly did not find any Gouchers at all in Sussex County, and it seems that there are lots of them. I must ask her about this. So I guess that my questions go like this: 1697 Robert Goucher, France: Is there a passenger listing for him? Was he a soldier and if so for whom? 1774, Sept., Richard Gouger, Sussex County, Hardyston Twp, NJ, Taxpayer: What is the name of the town? 1780, Aug., Richard Gouger, Sussex County, Hardyston Twp, NJ, Taxpayer: This is likely a census record? I will search that one. 1780, William Goucher born somewhere in NJ: Lets not rule out that he could have been born to Joseph Gouger as the b.'unknown' that I found. 1773-1800, Joseph Gauger listed as a member of Stillwar Reformed Church, Sussex County, NJ (possible settler of 1776?): He is likely to be the one listed as having a will in 1811, don't you think? And not the Joseph Gouger who was in Blairstown. Before 1788, Edward Goucher, Corp., NJ Volunteers Before 1788, Stephen Goucher, Corp., 1st battery, NJ Volunteers About these last two, they, with the Joseph Gouger of Blairstown could by the three brothers who came to america to fight.... even tho our stories talk of Hessian soldiers...
