David, I believe that to know who you are you need to know where you have come from. We carry a lot of information from generation to generation and some times know not why.
For instance I always wondered why there was so many Davids in our family. They normally had a strange second name such as FORSYTH, MARION etc.
After looking back I could see the mothers influence strongly and they felt proudly enough about their birthnames that they endowed them om their children.
My GGGF, David (born 1836 in Sallysburg Lanarkshire Scotland) emmigrated to Autralia in the 1890s. He was a miner and came to work in the new goldmines in Australia. His son was also a miner, as was his. I am the first to break the mold.
We still look at Lanarkshire as the source of multiple following generations, and visit it as if we were pilgrims on any trip to Scotland.
Great to hear from the Haddows still close to the source.
