Hi Geoffrey,
How are you? Hope you remember me! I wanted to tell you that the William Ivester you have posted here is not your ancestor William, but the nephew of your William. This Civil War William you've posted is the son of Peter, who is your William's brother. He is in our line (my husband's g-g grandfather is Peter) and this William is buried with his father and other of Peter's line at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Turnerville, Habersham County, with the civil war marker. He is personally known and remembered in our line. Also, the marker states that it was placed by William's nephew, who is known in our line.

I've always wondered about the authenticity of your William's being in the War, but have never broached the subject, and hesitate now. Seems to me that there is a possibility that your family was in error many years ago, and that the UDC was also in error in their authentication of your William. I think they may have mixed up the two. Our William never married; was of an age to be in the service. Your William was already married with several children. Not an impossibility, however.

BUT - the William you quote is definitely not your William, but our William, the son of Peter. Birthdates and death dates are those of our William, also.

Let me hear from you!

Janice
