I am looking for an Elizabeth Layhey or Lahey who married a Jarvis or Jabez Sweet and lived in the Saint John, NB area. Would you have run across the name in the area you are searching?

The first child of this marriage was born in 1843 so I would expect that they would have been married c1840. Most if not all of their children were born while the family lived in Saint John West. Sometime around 1857, Elizabeth remarried, this time to Walter Gladstone. I am not aware of why she remarried; perhaps Jarvis died.

In the 1901 census for Coverdale, Albert Co., Elizabeth gives 30 May 1812 as her birthdate and NS as place of birth. The death certificate of her son Alonzo gives Truro, NS as birthplace of mother. In the 1881 census, she gives Scot. as nationality or origins.

I have seen her name spelled as Lachye as well as Layhey. I have never seen either of these variations of the name prior to these records - the spelling Lahey is more common I would say.

So, I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Bob Sweet
