Dear Anne,

Thank you for listing these births from 1st Newtownards Presbytarian Church. They are not easy to obtain and are not available from the public records office.
You have done a very good job.
Quite a few of those listed are my relatives for example:

David McGimpsey & Mary McCall (actually McAuley)were my great grandparents.
Martha B1847, was their daughter

John McGimpsey B1855, was their son and the grandfather of John, the dairy farmer who lives out beside you at 17 Loughries Road.

Thomas B1858, was their son. He was simple minded, due to an injury when he was young. He lived and died with his brother David and his wife Mary Ann Cambell in the 4 chimnied farmhouse in loughries road that his father David had built.

Robert McGimpsey B1861, my grandfather, was their youngest son. He was educated at Trinity College Dublin and ended up as Principal of East Street No.2 National School in Newtownards.

There are a few more that would take me a minute or two to work out.

David B1887, Robert McGimpsey's son, was my uncle. I was called after him. He fought in the 1st World War, in the Australian Army,& was in a German Prisoner of war Camp. Afterwards, he was aschoolteacher in Australia and ended his days in Queensland.

James Campbell B1891, also Robert McGimpsey's son, was my Uncle. I was called after him, as well. He fought in the 1st World War, in the Ulster Rifles, and was killed at the SOMME. He is remembered on a brass plaque in the church.

Robert(Bert) B1893, also Robert McGimpsey's son, and my Uncle. He went to New York and lived there most of his life.

William B1995, also Robert McGimpsey's son, and my Uncle, was in the Ulster Volunteer Force. He also fought in the 1st World War before going to Canada.
I correspond with his son Clifford.

Hugh Campbell B1887, also Robert McGimpsey's son, and my Uncle, remained in N. Ireland. He went to live in Millisle and was the grandfather of 'The McGimpsey Brothers', the removal people.

John Gilbert (Albert)B1898, Robert McGimpsey's son, and my Uncle. He married Martha Gunning from N/Nards in America. They lived in New York State. He was around 94 when he died.

Edward Bruce B1900. Robert McGimpsey's son, and my Uncle also went to America. He lived and died there.
