Who were the parents of Peter McSweeney and Johanna (last name unknown)?
Peter McSweeney was born in Killarney/Kilkenny,Ireland about 1805-1808. He immigrated to England by 1832 where he married Johanna (unknown maiden name) 1 April 1832 in Kensington. Peter, Johanna, and their infant son, William, arrived in NY in July 1834. Peter was a shoemaker by trade and served 3 enlistments in the US Army. He is presumed to have died of an unknown illness as a result of his military service in the Mexican War. He was left ill at Parras in Dec. 1846 and never heard from again. His widow Johanna married John Harlan, who was dead by 1849. Johanna applied for Peter's military pension but was denied. She was successful in obtaining Peter's military bounty land for their children: Johanna, Catherine, Matilda, Peter, and Mary.
