Back in February of 1999, Bob Montgomery posted [this forum, #122] inquiring about parentage issues for "Sally Messenger b. 1808 NY, M.William Mapes in Le Roy TWP, Geauga co. Ohio, 2 July 1828."

Apparently "there is a Sally Messenger, daughter of Issac Messenger III She was b. 1818", whom seems to be occasionally reported as William Mape's wife. Bob thought, "this is not the one I want."

Sheri Nye replied (According to "The Narrative of the Life of Joseph Tuttle"), "Ashbel Messenger did have a daughter Sally born in New York. They came to Ohio and settled in Geauga Co. (now Lake Co.) Ohio."

Has anyone found better proof of the ancestry of William Mapes wife? Additional information on this Mapes family would also be appreciated -- the Mapes seems to be quite intertwined with my maternal Aikins, Allard, and Oliver families, and through one of those odd genealogical twists, Sally is possibly a paternal 5th cousin, thrice removed ...

Thank you,
