Walter Steve Cummings, 53, died May 23, 2009, at the North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in Amory on May 26, l955. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a heavy equipment operator until becoming disabled. A lifelong Lee Countian living in the Pontocola Community, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. Services were at the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with private burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Pontotoc. Survivors included his mother, Belle Cummings of Pontocola; his daughter, Mollie Jones (John) of Tupelo; two sons, Brad Cummings (Amanda) of Pontotoc and Matt Cummings of Shannon; the mother of his children, Bonnie Cummings of Shannon; 11 grandchildren; two sisters, Susan Wilson and Misty Parker, both of Tupelo; and two brothers, Scott Cummings (Tammy) and Mickey Payne, all of Shannon. He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Boggan Cummings; and a brother, Terry Payne.
