James Franklin Tucker died Monday, Sept. 8, 2008. He was born Feb. 24, 1931. He was employed by Mississippi Power and Light for 42 years and owned his own business, Tucker Electric Company, which is now owned by his son, Tim Tucker. He was elected to the Tunica County Board of Supervisors in 1991, serving for 12 years from 1992 until 2004. During his tenure on the board, he was instrumental in helping Tunica County develop what is now the third largest casino industry in the United States. He also successfully lobbied in Washington D.C. with Sen. Trent Lott and Sen. Thad Cochran to have Interstate 69 pass through Tunica County. He was honored by his county naming the Tunica Weir after him, which has helped the residents of the Tunica Cutoff. Services were at the First Baptist Church in Tunica. Burial was at Oakwood Cemetery in Tunica. Memorial Funeral Home of Tunica was in charge. Local survivors include a son, Byron Shane Tucker, of Tupelo. |
