Who are the parents of Levi Tharp married to a Martha of Alabama? Levi died in 1836. In Tuscaloosa, Alabama court & land records his children are listed as Mary, Martha, John, Sarah J., Riley Wesley, Nancy A., Alfred, Lucinda, Thomas, and Elizabeth. These children were all living in Chickasaw County in 1842. Several married children stayed in Mississippi while others moved to Texas. For years we have had Levi connected to Jacob W. Tharp & Phoebe Crawford of New Jersey. Unfortunately, there are several Levi Tharp's and everyone has them linked to Jacob W. Tharp. In Jacob's will filed 1793, he apprenticed his son Levi who later became a shoemaker. In the 1850 census of Osage County, Missouri is listed a Levi Tharp b. 1782 in New Jersey who's occupation is a shoemaker. So who are my Levi Tharp's parents. Several of Levi's older children were born in Tennessee. I can only find one of his children listed on the 1880 Census that asks where your parents were born. John Tharp, son of Levi Tharp, states that his father and mother were born in Virginia. This comes from the 1880 Census of Sumner County, Mississippi where he is listed as John Thorp, recently widowed and living with his son John H. Thorp By the way, does anyone have any pictures of the Tharps? We have a picture of Bethenie Roberts the daughter of Nancy Tharp Roberts, but not of Nancy. I am a descendant of Bethenie Roberts, daughter of Nancy Tharp, daughter of Levi Tharp of Alabama. Debbie
