W.H. (William Harrison) and Matilda (THOMPSON) MURLIN, were brother and sister to
my great-grandparents, James and Mary Jane (MURLIN) THOMPSON. Harrison and Mary Jane
MURLIN were two of the children of William and Lydia (BIGELOW) MURLIN. They were born in
Hardin County, Kentucky but moved with their
family as children to Mercer County, Ohio.
James and Matilda THOMPSON were two of the children of James and Mary (MCINTYRE) THOMPSON. They were born in Springfield, Clark Co., Ohio, but moved as children with
their family to Mercer County, Ohio. Both couples married in Mercer County, and as young marrieds with other relatives and associates, moved west to Vinton, Benton Co.,
Iowa. James and Mary Jane THOMPSON moved to
Hampton, Franklin Co., Iowa and the MURLINS stayed in Vinton. Harrison served in the Civil War from Iowa. Seven of his brothers served in the Civil War from Ohio. After Matilda was widowed, she moved to Oskaloosa
to be nearer another brother, Samuel THOMPSON. I have record of six children being born to Harrison and Matilda MURLIN. I have also obtained Matilda's application for a Civil War widow's pension, which was refused because she married twice following her Harrison's death, and his death was not the result of his service during the Civil War. The last date given in this application
process is 1916. I would like to know more about her and where she died.
