Sidney, NY state did not require birth/death registration until 1881 & some towns/counties did not comply with the law until well after that. Have you tried to get a death record for Ruth Sharp. It might possibly have her birth surname on it. I see she & Levi K. Sharp are on the 1880 census in Adair Co., Iowa. Iowa began death reg. in 1880. Pat R.
