This researcher has your family member on his website, so he may have some ideas. If you highlight, copy, and paste the URL in your browser then click the search button, it will take you to the website. You can then email the person to share your information.

It makes it very difficult because there are no census records showing the spouses of the heads of households before 1850.

Subject: [MARSHALL-L] MARCHALS (MARSHALLS) from France
Date: Wed, 11 Oct 2000 02:40:19 EDT

I'm new to this list and wonder if anyone is related to the MARCHALs who were from Petitmagny in the Alsace Lorraine area of France and came to Stark County OH, then Darke County OH about 1830. The family was Catholic.

Immigrants were:

Nicolas Valentin MARCHAL and wife Jeanne Marie REINICHE
Their children: Marie Therese
Jacob
Marguerite
Nicholas
Marie Francois
George
Marie Catherine
Jean Claude
Marie
Joseph (born at sea)
Jane (born in this country)
Marie (born in this country.

Some of the descendants used the MARSHALL spelling. Many stayed in Darke County Ohio, then moved to Grant County Indiana. Some moved to Idaho and were instrumental in developing the potato industry.

Please let me know if you have any information on this family or any descendants.

Are there any MARCHALs on this list? I have been watch for the French
spelling for a long time, without luck. My MARCHALs came from the village
of Petitmagny, near Belfort in Alsace, close to the Swiss and German borders.

Nicolas Valentin MARCHAL brought his family of 8 children to America in the
summer of 1827. His wife, Jeanne Marie Reiche gave birth to another son
before they landed in this country. The family stayed in Stark County, Ohio
for a couple of years, then went to Darke County, Ohio. Jeanne Marie
apparently died in Stark County. I am trying to get an idea where the
descendants are now. I do know that some moved to Idaho, (Joseph P.
MARSHALL, and maybe others), while some moved to California and Florida and
that several branches changed the spelling to MARSHALL. The branch I am from
moved from Darke County, Ohio to Grant County, Indiana, and are now scattered
throughout the country. We are planning a family reunion this summer and
would like to know where our kinfolk are.

We have traced the family in France several generation before Nicolas
Valentin and would be glad to share that information.

If anyone has information to share on this family, please let me know.
Thanks.
