Paula, your posting attracted my interest because my family also lived in Overton in the 1950s. I do not think the Sanders you mentioned are related to me, but I was able to gather additional information about John and Maudie Sanders.

The 1930 census of Wilbarger County, Texas, has a John and Maudie Sanders with their children Jack E. (female) and Aalon Ferguson. It appears that Maudie's maiden name was Dillard and that she died in 1986 in Titus County. The 1930 census does not make clear why the children have different surnames from their parents, but perhaps Maudie married a Ferguson before she married John Sanders.

There is a Find-A-Grave memorial (3113715) for Eldridge A. Lee, who married Jack E. (or Jackie) Ferguson. He died in 1968 and is buried in the Houston National Cemetery in Harris County. I could not find a death certificate for her and it is possible there was a divorce or she remarried after his death.

I was also unable to find any information about the parents of John Sanders who was born in 1898.

Aalon Ferguson was mentioned in a couple of newpaper articles as recently as this fall:

Aalon Ferguson Longview Served as a tech sergeant with the U.S. Marines in the 1st division in Southwest Pacific on Green (Nissan) Island of Papua, New Guinea, and on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands. (Feb. '42 - Feb. '46)

There is a longer article at this site, posted October 26, 1012:

Good luck with your research and I hope this helps.
