Hi Alexander,

Do you know if any of your ancestors had relatives who emigrated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (in the United States) in 1732? My surname was spelled Schuessler when my ancestors immigrated in 1732, but I haven't been able to determine where they lived in Germany. The surname seems to have been so common that I'm having trouble even narrowing down the area that the family might have come from. One possibility, though, is that the family might have come from Hessen -- family oral history said that one ancestor was Hessian and fought in the American Revolution. I've been able to determine that that ancestor did serve for a short while in the War, but that he was born in Pennsylvania. However, his father, grandfather and at least 2 uncles were the family members who had imigrated in 1732, so I think it's possible that the imigrants might have come from Hessen. But when I tried tracing the origin of a lot of the fellow passengers, they seem to have come from other areas. Even if you don't have any distant relatives who came to the United States in 1732, do you have any information and/or suggestions that can help me trace my ancestors in Germany?

Thanks for any help and information you can provide.
