Members of the Shetter(s)/Shutter(s) and related families are organizing a DNA project utilizing the facilities of Family Tree DNA. Many surnames are derived from the original settler, Jacob Schotter, who settled in York County, Pennsylvania in the mid 1700s. It is believed that this surname __________ may be one of the Jacob Schotter descendants. (We hope no one is offended). For various reasons, these names were misspelled and/or miss-pronounced by later generations and became essentially new names. My wife is a Shetters. Research has established the probability that she is (90%) descended from this ancestor. Initial requirements for starting a group is that male member with any of these names would join the group and submit their names to Family Tree DNA. A test kit would be shipped to the applicant who would do an inside the cheek swab and mail the specimen to Family Tree DNA. The Shetter name has been listed by FTDNA as a family tree DNA project. All of this is further (and better) explained on the FTDNA web site which is: Arrangements for DNA testing can be made at this site. Just follow the leads. We honestly pray that this will help solve some of the dilemmas that exist in researching and compiling a history of this family. Thanks to all who read, consider and give this idea a few minutes of your time. My very best to all,
