My family records has John Smoot, son of Notley Smoot married to Sally Staples.  my records have 8 sons (matching those in your list) and 4 girls.  My family continues from their elder son George Washington Smoot (b 1816).  May have other information of interest and I believe we have exchanged email in the past.
