To whom it may concern...I am doing in depth research on the Stitt family name.
I descend from William Stitt b ca 1735 N. Atrim Ireland. I have found that he is part
of the Ulster/Scot movement of families that were transplanted in the 1600's to Ireland
from Scotland.
I have also found that he might be actually STOTT not Stitt...which might have been from
the Scott Clan of the Boarder Reivers....all this is speculation at the moment but..
The Dictionary of American Family Names, Oxford university Press...ISBN 0-19-508197-4
Stitt - Scottish, Northern English and Northern Irish; Unexplained. Possibly a variant
of Stott.
This gives me some information which i am searching. In addition all the Stott, Stitt and Scott
families lived in the Dumphries, Ettrick Areas of Scotland along the Borders.
If anyone has information pertaining to this theory or families that might help please
Email me.
Sincerely;

Leslie Stitt
