Read your message of ten years ago re: Stockley family moving to North Carolina.
I have been researching Stockley/Stokley family in connection with my own family (Calvert/Colvard/Colbert).
My 7th GG was Christopher Calvert of Accomack Co., VA. He arrived in Accomack in 1636. Francis and John Stockley also lived in Accomack Co. I believe Francis may have arrived as early as 1632.
Both our families were connected to other families including Robins, Parker, Bradford, and Scarburgh.
One year after Christopher Calvert died, Woodman Stockley, son of John Stockley, bought Christopher's home in Onancock, Va.
That was in 1683.
After Christopher's death his sons and daughter moved out of Accomack to other parts. My side of the family moved to North Carolina. In the 1760's my 3rd and 4th GG Thomas Calvert/Colvard was living in Bute Co. (now Franklin and Warren counties). Also living in Bute Co. at this time were John Stokley and his wife Mary and Benson Bashford and his wife Penting.
John Stokley Colvard and his brother William Bashford Colvard were born in NC and then moved to Elbert Co., GA.
John Stokley Colvard died in 1835.
You said your side of the family lived in NC. Was it Bute Co?
