I hope you are still reading the Holcomb Forum. I am a Simpson researcher but have found several posts that seem to connect Simpsons to Holcombs. In 1823 in the estate of John Simpson in Laurens District, South Carolina, Hosea Holcombe is listed as guardian of John Simpson. No wife listed in this estate--children were: John Simpson, Isabella who intermarried with John Coleman, Sarah, Betsey, Peter, Peggy, William and James. Posted on Laurens County, SC Genealogy Forum by Marta Patterson, message 506, are records of will/estate abstracts--Casea (?Cassey) Holcomb..sister Phoeby Holcomb..EXR: Brother John and children: Cassandra, Alfred, Devel, ?Martral.. 1 April 1835..10 July 1843..WIT: Peter Simpson, Nathanel Thackston, E. Lyon, Thomas Wright, Stephen and Lucy Griffith.. Bk. A, p. 33. Could this Devel be Nevel? Also, from Nation Builders book: Hosea Holcombe was born 1792 Laurens District, died 1832 Lauren District, married Elizabeth ?. Had 7 children: First one unknown Holcombe born 1812 married Jim Simpson who died before 11/11/1832 as his father-in-law, Hosea Holcombe, administered his estate in Laurens District., SC. They had 3 children: William, John and Peter Simpson. It goes on to list the other six children. This Hosea is supposedly son of Elisha/Elijah. In 1847 Peter Simpson dies. The town of Simpsonville, South Carolina is named for Peter Simpson. He was a blacksmith. He went to Greenville County from Laurens County in 1838. Mildred Brownlee, well known genealogist in South Carolina, has done a little work on this Peter Simpson. His brother William Simpson administered his estate. She also states she believes Peter had a daughter named Margaret who married a Thackston. They had a brother John (born 1802) who married Louisa Knight who came from North Carolina. John and Louisa are buried in South Carolina. There children were Samuel, John, Peter, Sarah, William. Mrs. Brownlee also believes the grandfather of John, William and Peter was Samuel. This may be Samuel Simpson out of Union County, SC who died 1797 and in his estate papers one Hosea Holcombe is a guardian of John Simpson. This could not be the same Hosea as in the 1823 estate of John Simpson.
If you or anyone else can make connection of this and/or advise me is this makes sense, please respond on this forum. My William Simpson brickwall was born 1812, supposedly Union County, SC. I have a suspicion his family may have come out of Virginia/North Carolina into South carolina. My dad's sister entered the DAR under Major Richard Harrison whose family originated in Virginia through North Carolina into Greenville/Spartanburg, SC where my ancestors were. A book which was discovered last year states the Simpson's came from Virginia.
Hope you or anyone can help.
